Welcome
The Purpose of US Horsemanship.net is to help
preserve the equestrian history of America, and to aid the rider, riding
instructor and other horsemen in the pursuit of studying horsemanship.
It doesn’t matter if you ride a hunter jumper, an event horse, a western
horse, dressage, or if you enjoy riding a horse for pleasure, you will
discover America’s unique history with the horse at
www.ushorsemanship.net

US Horsemanship is an on-going, developing
web site, so you will want to visit often to discover the new tools and
information that I have added. US Horsemanship starts out by lightly
touching on important topics but in time I’ll cover the Colonial
Period through Ft Riley with Harry Chamberlin and his teachings from
Federico Caprilli and The French Cavalry School, to the American Cowboy
and the original Horse Whisperers, to post Cavalry influences such as
Gordon Wright, and Vladimir Littauer, and current influences such as
George Morris, Sally Swift, and the US Olympic Team.
In depth topics will be available through the
monthly free e-newsletter, US Horsemanship News, so I urge you to fill
out our simple newsletter request form. If you’d like to
participate in on-going discussions, join the US Horsemanship Blog
http://ushorsemanship.com or the new blog for Riding Instructors and
students at
http://theridinginstuctor.net.
Riding Seats & Styles –
There are many different riding seats and styles. Which one do you
ride? In Riding Seats & Styles I give you an overview of the basic
seats used in the US. I cover what they are used for, which
associations they are connected to, and basic differences between them. History- US Horsemanship’s Time Line for
Equestrians will show you how the development of horsemanship fits
into history and growth in America. It will also give you a “sense” of
when significant changes occurred and influential people lived. People & Places- read biographical sketches
of horsemen and women. Learn about schools, institutions and areas that
have influenced the development of the US horseman. Reviews – books, etc. I love books both old
and new. In book reviews I’ll tell you about books that I’ve
studied so that you can decide if it is a book to add to your own
library. If an “in print “ books seems like a must have to you,
you are welcomed to use the convenient link to Amazon in order to make a
purchase. For “out of prints” books. I’ll do my best to direct you
to a source for the book. Videos and DVDs- US Horsemen and women
are fortunate to have access to so much information on disk but
sometimes it’s difficult to know where to spend your money. My
visual media reviews will help you decide what to add to your
collection. Associations- USEF, AQHA, IHAS, FEI, USEA,
USDF, USPC….could there be any more acronyms? At “associations” US
Horsemanship will give you a brief explanation, the full name and how
to contact an association that meets your needs. The Riding Instructor- Do
you know how to identify a good riding instructor”? Are you a a good
instructor who could use new tools and ideas? Are you planning on
becoming an instructor? You will find answers, direction and tools here.
Check back frequently as this area of US Horsemanship develops. Links- Every web site needs a good links
list. Some of these links have helpful descriptions. A warning
though, just because I have listed a URL for you to check does not
necessarily mean that I agree with their web’s content. I expect
all of US Horsemanship’s visitors to make the discovery and decisions
that suit their own needs in horsemanship. Contact- If you have questions, or if there
is something that you would like to see on US Horsemanship.net or if
you would like to know about submissions guidelines, contact me at
